Revelation 15 ESV

The Seven Angels with Seven Plagues

1Then I saw another sign in heaven, great and amazing, seven angels with seven plagues, which are the last, for with them the wrath of God is finished.

2And I saw what appeared to be a sea of glass mingled with fire—and also those who had conquered the beast and its image and the number of its name, standing beside the sea of glass with harps of God in their hands. 3And they sing the song of Moses, the servant of God, and the song of the Lamb, saying,

“Great and amazing are your deeds,
O Lord God the Almighty!
Just and true are your ways,
O King of the nations!a
4Who will not fear, O Lord,
and glorify your name?
For you alone are holy.
All nations will come
and worship you,
for your righteous acts have been revealed.”

5After this I looked, and the sanctuary of the tentb of witness in heaven was opened, 6and out of the sanctuary came the seven angels with the seven plagues, clothed in pure, bright linen, with golden sashes around their chests. 7And one of the four living creatures gave to the seven angels seven golden bowls full of the wrath of God who lives forever and ever, 8and the sanctuary was filled with smoke from the glory of God and from his power, and no one could enter the sanctuary until the seven plagues of the seven angels were finished.

Revelation Chapter 15 is a brief but significant chapter that sets the stage for the final series of judgments in the Book of Revelation. Here's a summary:

  1. Heavenly Vision: The chapter opens with a vision of heaven. John sees a “sea of glass mixed with fire” and those who have been victorious over the beast and its image, as well as those who did not worship the beast or its image. They are standing by the sea, holding harps and singing the song of Moses and the Lamb.

  2. The Song of Victory: The song they sing praises God for His great and marvelous deeds and for His righteous judgments. It highlights the themes of God's sovereignty and justice.

  3. Seven Angels with Seven Plagues: John then sees seven angels coming out of the heavenly temple, each with a bowl or vial filled with the final seven plagues. These plagues are described as the “last plagues” because, after them, God’s wrath will be completed.

  4. The Temple Filled with Smoke: The chapter concludes with the temple in heaven being filled with smoke from the glory and power of God, making it impossible for anyone to enter until the seven plagues are finished.

In essence, Revelation 15 serves as a prelude to the Bowl Judgments, showcasing both the ultimate triumph of God's faithful and the impending finality of divine judgment. It challenges believers to remain faithful despite impending trials and judgments. It also encourages worship and praise of God, even in difficult circumstances. The chapter reminds Christians of their ultimate victory through Christ and the importance of standing firm against evil forces
